There are a lot of different flooring options out there; as I’m sure many homeowners are aware of. Stone tile flooring is a great choice and it is one of the most widely used flooring types available. But of course, if you decide on stone tile you have to decide on what type of stone you’d like to use. Each type of stone has different properties and it would take a good bit of research to determine what type of stone would work best for your home. Today, I’d like to take a closer look at limestone tile flooring. Specifically, the line of products offered in Armstrong’s Alterna tile flooring brand. But first a quick overview of limestone.

Limestone is a sedimentary rock, which means it is formed by which means that it is formed when smaller rocks and particles are joined together by pressure. The rock itself is usually fairly soft, as far as rocks go. A lot of caves are made of limestone and are formed by running water, since untreated limestone is soluble in water. But limestone’s softness and water solubility shouldn’t prevent you from considering using limestone flooring in your home. Armstrong has done a lot of work to combat the natural softness of limestone to develop a highly durable type of flooring tile. Their Alterna line is coated with an advanced aluminum oxide coating which does several things. First, it provides superior scratch, stain, and wear resistance. Secondly, it helps prevent moisture from significantly damaging the floor. It also helps maintain the exquisite look and design of the floor which is one of its biggest draws.

You may hear limestone and think of tans and dark browns and while these colors are available, Armstrong’s Alterna line is so much more. You can find black limestone tiles, reds, greens and really any color that you may want to fit the scheme and design of your home. Another great feature of Armstrong’s Alterna line is their natural appearance, which means that virtually no two are exactly like. Many times when stones are finished they lose their earthy quality but that isn’t true of Alterna tiles.
