Getting your flooring home
While You’re Waiting…
Your made your choice and ordered your new flooring. Now the wait begins, but there are a few things you can do while you wait.
Most online flooring companies ship floor using freight carriers. It makes sense for two reasons. The first, most obvious reason is that it’s cheaper. Freight carriers are able to handle the large, heavy shipments with an ease that smaller carriers simply can’t bear.
Second, freight carriers have the equipment they need which, in turn, makes the cost more effective.
That second reason, though, has its own host of concerns. While freight carriers can generally guarantee the time of delivery, that delivery is not to your door. Freight carriers often ship flooring materials using a curbside service. That means that the flooring will be unloaded at your home, but you need to make arrangements to get your flooring into your home. It is sometimes possible, depending on the carrier, to have the shipment brought in for you at an additional charge. If not, you need to figure out how you will get your flooring out of the elements and into the right conditions for storage until you are ready for installation.
To make things a little simpler, here are some things to keep in mind as you choose an online seller and place your order:
- Before purchasing your flooring, make sure you have a clear understanding of the company’s shipping policy.
- If you are planning on having a professional install your flooring, make sure there is a guaranteed delivery date before you sign an installation contract.
- What exactly does delivery mean? If you need to pay extra to have the flooring moved in your home from the truck or need to get help from another source, now is the time to find out.
- If you will be storing the materials for a fairly long period of time, what conditions must be maintained? Some floors need to be kept at a moderate temperature, neither too hot nor too cold. And some types of flooring should be kept in the room for a period of time to adjust to the climate before being installed.
- If the flooring you purchase suffers any sort of damage, what is the sellers policy on returns or exchanges?
With just a few considerations, shipping and delivery can be the uneventful outcome of an easy, hassle free shopping experience.
